2004 Pontiac Front End Whine
Our family has a 2004 Pontiac grand prix gt front wheel drive and i was driving it down the road and I noticed that it had a noticeable vibration and winne that matched with the speed as if it were a ring and pinion trying to go bad. I don't know how long it's been doing this b/c my sister has been driving the thing. I have a gut feeling i need to get rid of this thing quick b/c if it is what i think it is it will be a very costly repair bill. If yall have any input on the situation please let me know. THANKS!!!

Might have an axle going or the hub is bad. You can drive it around for a little bit and then feel or spray some water the hub and the CV joints on the axles. If they're real hot, you found something.

My bet is axle or wheel bearing.
jack up the front of the car and grab the front wheel on the top and bottom and try to move it
done that all ready on both sides, jacked up both sides, and ran the car while it was up on jacks, no busted cv joint boots, and no oil grease being slung, how ever the trans. was flushed about 3,ooo mi. ago. i think what might of happened was some flush was left in the tranny any thoughts?

u check the fluid level and color?
yes, and all was fine
wow do i feel stupid it was a passenger front hub bering.:argh:
At least you caught it before the bearing went completely out. Should plan on doing the drivers side to, just to be safe.

lmao, were having the same problem on our minivan right now at work. (yes its a mini van, no i dont drive it) and its been making a real bad whine from the front also. He thinks its the brake caliper stickin so hes gonna replace that at home, on his own time with his own money on the company vehicle :ph: Oh well, maybe he will take it to the shop someday so they can work on it and he dont have to pay anything. |
