Gas Stations Against Credit Cards
|
"At these prices, people aren't making any money," said Jeff Lenard, |
When I traveled to AZ -- some stations there wouldn't accept debit/credit transactions... or if they did, they charged you a fee
it is true that people aren't making $$ off of the sale of the gasoline - the profit margins shrink as the price goes up and up to where people won't pay for it. but what this guy fails to realize is that the fuel sales are just to lure people into the store to buy other stuff! Wonder what their profits were on taht stuff? |

so if they not supposed to charge more for people useing credit cards.. what if they just offer a dicount for cash payers, hmmmm depends on the wording huh |
when we go on big trips, I carry cash for fuel, incase I run arcoss those types of stations.. seems more and more are that way -- even advertise on their huge signs Cash and Credit prices... it only makes sense with the way the Credit card companies are charging for people to be able to use the cards... they get it comming and going - they get the interest/fees/whatever from the consumer and they charge the merchant for the ability to accept those cards...

but at the same time who wants to carry that much cash on them? when my dad opened up a speed shop in late 80's he wanted to offer a cash discount and was told he couldn't so now why can the gas stations do this? I guess it's how you word it... not a cash discount but a credit fee.
|
Casinos for the big truck stops, or at least a couple machines for the small stations. For the few that don't already have them.

personally i have no problem with it. but i go to small business like pawn shops when i want to buy tools.. and hagle a bit, also i let them know i'm paying with cash, then they usually help me out a bit more.. |
its sad when even the gas stations are complaining about high gas prices, guess big guys(creidt cards companies and oil companies)are out to screw the little man(us) and the middle man(gas stations) and force them into debt.:ouch::booo::bat::madd:
|
yeah, they are ticked cuz they arn't part of the "record profits"
|
I live in Webster, N.Y. A lot of stations offer 3 to 5 cents off
if you pay cash. this has been going on for a long time here. |
which is what they were trying to do with their shop too but they said you can't do that even not being advertised
|
Independent stations have to pay for their delivery on demand, just like you or I; when we fill up.
So, a poor mom and pop gas station with only 10,000 gallons of fuel has to fork out $35,000 or more just to stay in business a few more days. |
there is always another option, the CC companies make 2 % on the dollar, the gas staion is doing it by the gallon.
all they need to do is figure out what percentage of a dollar they need to stay in business, and do their markup that way... it seems like basic business sense to me, if your costs are based on the dollar value of your transactions than your markups need to be based on that as well not on the gallons you sold... in the end we would end up paying more, i know, but if the gas station makes no money it goes outta business and then the big corporate stations will be the only ones left allowing them to charge whatever they want... old man in the story claimed 60 bux a month in gas profit, obviously he wasnt paying his retirement with that, mark up a couple cents to cover the 60 bux a month and keep selling your 10 dollar frozen burritos and cigarettes |
Ive noticed lately, that even large stations have a different cash price... usually a few cents per gallon cheaper
