meh, fishing is cheaper, but im not saying i wouldn't go hunting

Fishin2Deep4U 05-14-2008 01:31 AM

I used to once upon a time. But a completely different type of hunting than you are doing. It was more like pig hunting. But it was a blast.

I spend all my money and most of my girlfriends fishing now. :D

Is that why you got the Cummins... to haul the girlfriends around in?

I just bought a new pup mostly for helpin with cattle and horses and I looked hard at the cats. Most of what I found showed them bein to aggressive with what I do with them, don't want to make the critters to scared just keep em movin. I ended up with a Brindle BMC (Black Mouth Cur). Had him goin to the barn with me for about a week now and he's already startin to pick up on things.

I got him treein hot dogs just in case I ever get back into coon huntin again. Wish we had hogs around here though, they look like a lot more fun. Sounds like you got your work cut out for ya just keepin them dogs excercised. Gonna drive you nuts if you don't while they make there own fun.

the idea of hunting something that could tusk me to death is not my idea of hunting, its being the hunted

LOGANSTANFORTH 05-15-2008 06:10 AM

never have found the time to go, even though i live in florida and we have tons of wild hogs......what gun do you use, i plan on using my .44 mag revolver and my .45-70 rifle......

How'd you get the cat to mate w/ the pitt? :humm: :tttt: Are you gonna chase'em w/ the dogs? Or use'em to track? At my family's ranch down in Zapata County we hunt them pretty hard. Rifle, handgun, bow and arrow.
If you can bait them use either sour corn or corn mixed with dry strawberry jello mix. Then ice down the beer and fire up the BBQ pit. :c:

dozerboy 05-17-2008 04:39 PM

I always wanted to go, but never met anyone that hunted them.

ive got on BMC gyp now about 13mnth old and a BMC male pup if u ever lookin for another BMC dog i could prob get u a cull for free somtimes they dont like breakin of cows or all the other trash

cameroneod 06-23-2008 09:50 PM

Yes sir, I do. Me, the dog, and a knife. I generally wear a pistol for the boars, otherwise they get a pokin.

Longhorn 06-23-2008 10:03 PM

Hog Hunting...thats what we used to do when we rodeo'd...always needed a place to sleep overnight. One of us always had to take one for the team at the end of the rodeo dance before the ugly lights came on....it was either that or sleep in the truck lol

May have to take you up on that once I get this one started good. I don't do any huntin with them, they are all for cattle and horses. I'm gonna try my hand with this one on the trackin some and see how it goes since he seems to have the natural nack for it anyway. Be nice to just turn him lose on runaways and have him find em. Good money in that around here if it works out.

Pig hunted with the .280 remington,it's a good rifle for it,they go down hard.
Got a 12ga with buckshot for those close encounters.
Never tried hunting them with a dog...

staarma 07-08-2008 03:44 PM

Shoot, we used to use a snickers on a string at about 2:00 AM. I guess you could call it baiting them.

Seriously though...........

My buddy and his dad and brother go down to TX every year and shoot the heck out of them. Keeps them in practice for elk season. I may go with them this year I don't know. I guess they make pretty good sausage as that's all they do with them.

JS2TZU 07-17-2008 07:45 PM

I rarely ever miss a weekend hunting here. I run mostly 1/2 bull 1/2 whippet mixes (striclty for speed) a couple of airdale bull mixes (strictly for jaw) some pure bulls (anchors) at any given time running 15-18 dogs at a time. love the adrenaline rush when the dogs hold down a boar and I can stick em!

Yea we call that Kalua Pork. Its pretty much a staple here you cant go to a party ,wedding, or any other big gathering and not have it. You were probably at one of the hotel Luaus when you got that. The back yard ones are WAY better I have a luau pit set up in my pasture and we use it all the time.

Johnny Cetane 07-18-2008 12:17 PM

Your own luau pit? Keep the door open. I'm on my way.:run:

ive never hunted on the mainland so i really cant compare the two but....... here in Hawaii the pigs are so fast and so smart that thats the only way we could even have a chance of seeing one let alone catching one.

Ive seen all the specials on the discovery channnel on hogzilla and how the pigs are taking over up there. And honestly with the terrain and open country like there is i can see why you wouldnt need dogs.
