It brought back a memory for me. I have to share.
For my sons 13 birthday my bro arranged a heli ride. A small helicopter, Duncan "The pilot" took us all over the place. My sis went up the next day with the other Pilot, (forgot his name) but we all had so much fun. loved it.

A few weeks later they where in a Chinook like yours,Heli logging, they where having problems with a rutter ,They were heading back to camp for repairs but it was too late, the Chinook split in half, mid air. sadly both pilots died............. My bros best friends gone in so fast, he spent the night up there protecting the bodies from animals, they couldnt get the guys out till the next day..

Cool videos though, be safe.:pals:

I'm very sorry to hear that....I have also lost a few friends because of these things...

I was in that Mosul fly-by! On CH-47D #84-24155 (Divine Swine). It was all for show. Returning from Q-West back to Mosul. The stupidest thing about that? We went around twice! :humm: I guess because no one shot at us the first time we felt like giving them a second shot at us. Literally. :argh:

Is this Craig Halpin?

Eric Grass here...

:jump:WEED! What's up, Brotha? How ya been? Wanna come to Alaska? We are slowly reassembling the "Pachyderms" up here. Eastman and I run Maintenance, and LTC Knightstep runs the BN. It's like a big family reunion up here!

Dude, it's been a long time. Back over there again, I see. I can't blame you, though. I could have starting ACAP'ing about 18 months ago, but since I still don't know what I wanna be when I grow up, and after promising Knightstep I'd stay if he took over up here, I'm just still running wild with it.

Hey, be careful. I'll maybe see you in that area in the next week or so. Gotta do some "Humanitarian" things in that general half of the world. Maybe for about a year, who knows.:argh::c:

ChinookFE 08-30-2010 12:07 AM

I'm back in the States now...We got back in April. I would love to PCS to Alaska, but I just reenlisted again and I'm heading to Green Plt. in a couple weeks. Stay safe over there and tell Peryam and everyone else that I said What's up.

North Pole Hooker 09-01-2010 01:45 AM

Just got to Ramstien, Germany. Stupid Air Farce breaks everytime we get near a place with a high per diem rate! I'll tell JP that you said 'Hi', he's here with me. So is Beal. Enjoy Spec. Ops. It's hard, but it's fun. Did it for 5 1/2 years ('93-'98) and it will change a man for life. S&T is a hoot. Lots of shooting and "exercise". lol Just remember, if you make it, that the HIGH RATE button on the right hand side of the M134 grip is your friend. Nothing like 66 bullets per second to keep their heads down! I'll write ya back in a year or so, just to see how you're doin'. Good luck, Weed. NSDQ

Ya'll know any ch-47 pilots out of the michigan guard? First name is Matt. Out of grayling I believe. Used to fly AH-1's

North Pole Hooker 10-14-2010 09:05 AM

When I was growing up, Michigan never had Chinooks. But I left Cadillac at age 18, twenty years ago, and never looked back. It's pretty hard to narrow one guy in the U.S. Army, or Guard, or Army Reserve, with only a first name. :c:

That's the one thing we DON'T have on most of our uniforms! :rocking:

North Pole Hooker 05-13-2011 11:10 PM

Hey Grass! Did you make it through Selection? Pakistan only lasted 4-months. Funny thing is, we stayed about 45 miles, and flew within 10 miles, of where they capped Osama bin Laden. We saved thousands of those little rats, and they were harboring that SOB the entire time. Go figure.

I've about had it, Bro. I am retiring. 21 years, 1 month, 9 days. Not that I'm counting. Didn't get promoted (White-Male Syndrome kept me from being competative, once again) so I am hanging it up. Beal ETS'd. JP's ETS-ing (but not before he knocked up our prop & rotor girl):scare2: He's a douch nozzle. :bat: Eastman's going back to Mother Rucker to be the DES Sergeant Major. Knightstep is in Lewis with me right now getting everyone spun up and goggle current for a rotation (can't fly goggles in Alaska in the summer, sun never goes down!).:rocking:

Did you make it? Which Batt? Let me know, Dude! And be careful. The Regt. took my first marriage and turned me into an alcoholic. OK, so maybe it wasn't all their fault.:c: But they sure didn't help!!!:w2: Take care, and let me know what it's like these days. I left that life in '98 and it's probably a good thing that I did! Still, it was an absolute "blast"!!!
