Hummer H3T
I just read an artilce in the Sunday Newspaper about a new Hummer coming out. It is a pickup version, the H3T.
Anyway, they are describing it in the same class vehicle as the Ford Explorer Sport Trac and Honda Ridgeline. They talk about it's economical baseline 5 cylinder engine rated at 14 city and 18 hiway and also the "powerful" 5.3l V-8 at 300hp and 320ft/lbs of torque at 13 city and 16 hiway. Then they talk about the price... $31,000-$40,000. WHAT???? I don't get it... why not just buy Dodge Ram CTD? Same price, much more capable, better mileage and it's not a compact vehicle. |
People that are in the market for a Explorer Sport Track or a Honda Ridgeline wouldnt be caught dead in a CTD.
|
Not to mention it is a GM, so if they were going to buy a diesel it would most likely be the duramax.
Can you really get a Dodge CC with the Cummins for less then $40K? I figured they would be around $45-50. |
I think you can get a 4-door SLT cruiser for about $35,000. (Not 4x4)

Chicago '08 Preview: 2009 HUMMER H3T - Autoblog
They're banking on the H3T's offroad heritage to sell this thing. It'll have factory front and rear electric lockers which should help them. It's a different kind of audience then the CTD has. I've heard rumblings the entire Hummer line will get a 'Max within the next 2 years and I believe it. |
That thing looks like a ford, how could GM be so stupid?
|
What trucks cost in 04 and what they cost now are vastly different. Even from 06 to know is about a 5k-10k difference. To get a truck loaded with the options that H3T will come with is going to cost over 45k. Plus, some people can't and won't drive a big truck.
Keep in mind, people don't always buy cars because they make the most sense. In fact, most buy a car/truck/SUV because it is what they want to spend their $$ on. Just like a guy I work with has an Infiniti FX35. His average mileage is about 13 mpg. On the hwy he never sees over 18. Its not larege, not fast, and was not cheap. Why did he buy it? He wanted it even though it was very expensive. That is very similar to most people I run into. |
I think people want some vehicles because they are expensive.

humvee = cool! hummer = joke |
Aren't real HMMWV's all powered by 6.5L Diesels?
Yuch. Stay away... |
The last year they came out IIRC they had the Dmax. So what makes a Hummer a joke? They don't seem to sell to bad I bet GM sells more Hummers then Dodge sells cummins.
|
The H1's got a Duramax. The HMMWV's the military uses are still all 6.5's, I think.
|
Ya thats right I forgot they didn't want them it would take to much shielding to protect the electronics IIRC.
|
HMMWV still run 6.5TD engines
the H1Alpha ran a 6.6 dmax/allison setup in 06 then 07 they stop so they can produce the HMMWV full time now wearther ot not they have a 6.6 in the new HMMWV i dont know i would like to see a stock jeep compete on the level the HMMWV/H1 was desgined for.. i think the jeep woudl fail misurably the H2 and H3 are very capable over road vehicles for what they are. |
