Yamaha V-Max

Sometime in the very near future Im going to be in the market for a yamaha V-max motorcycle. Any thoughts or opinions? There are several performance parts from what I see so it sounds fun.

Basicly they are all the same. I'd stick with mid-'90s and up, due to the disc brakes, spin on oil filter and some other minor details. IF you get to test drive it, put it in 2nd gear, steady speed and let off the gas, then back on. If the tranny slipps into nutral, it's going to need a complete tear down and gears replaced. Also, if the tranny slipps into nutral while in 2nd at high revs, same thing....needs trans work. It's very common to happen in 2nd, because most V-Max owners, pound 1-2 shifts at full throttle and end up sheering the syncro in the process. Only fix is to pull the motor, splitting the cases and replacing the tranny parts.

They have an inherant steering head shake on decel, if the one you want does it, use it as a bargining tool to bring the price down. Then it's a few hand tools and 15 min fix. There are several 'cheap mods' that make the bike a whole new animal. Search 'VMOA' for the tricks and V-Max goobers......I mean riders.

You will get only 100 miles per tank....that's it. Filling up is wierd, because the tank is not a tank, it's under the seat. You'll always get funny looks at the gas station.

I've had mine for 4ish years now. I don't know what's more fun, woop'n the crap out of the 'highly modified' Harley guys, or blowing the doors off the sport bike guys.......with the wife on the back and on one wheel.:tttt:

If you have any specific questions, just ask. :U:

Stage 3 Dynojet Jet Kit and a Kerker full exhaust race pipe with the competition baffle are very nice choices for that bike as far as basic power goes. Next would be a Mad Max chain conversion to get rid of the drive shaft and you will have a rocket....in a straight line at least. The stage 3 kit along with that pipe make it sound like a V-8 heavy mod dragster. The idle and lower RPM cruise are sweet sounding but loud.

100 is normal as Tracy said. Worse I ever got was 80 per tank:w2:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

First mod is a Corbin seat, it's a must or your ass will hate you in 30 miles. I'll post pictures of mine when I get home.

Swing on down here sometime, I'll sell you mine. I'm looking for a change.
