The future of DB discussion, please chime in...

Well, glad to see a few old faces still around here. This is my first post in a while and to be honest I tried to read through all of the posts in this thread and just couldn't do it. I am sure that many will argue every word I say here, and that's fine. I doubt if I will open this thread up again anyway.
It has always been my opinion that to save this site it needs to get back to it's roots of what made it great in the beginning. From a month before this site even went live the plan was never to have just another tech site. It was about creating the small town atmosphere that people could enjoy their time here and talk about anything that they would while standing at home in their own garage.
The site wasn't staffed with truck guru's for a reason. It was staffed with a bunch of us misfit's that enjoyed hanging around here and wanted nothing more then to have fun. The members and vendors provided the tech know how. We just stepped in during problems and made fun of people, including ourselves and lightened the mood. It worked. Our membership, and staff were made up of everybody that had already been kicked off of every other site out there, yet they came here and were our best members.
This site lost it when staff started taking themselves to serious and lost the ability to laugh about stuff and enjoy being here. Where staff go the membership will follow and they did. The arguments started and the people that were here to have fun left.
This place was intended to cater to the everyday driver that used his truck to make a living and carry their family from one place to another safely. Not to be your source of drag racing build specs. If you want in depth competition build info from people that live eat and breath competition there are plenty of sites out there. But understand that with that level of intensity comes that level of fighting about it also.
Nothing wrong with any of that at all, but if you want to understand what I am talking about just go over to Comp Diesel and look around. Every thread is an argument. That was not our goal. We wanted a relaxed place to come and get some good general info about your truck and "shoot the **** for a while".
Right now, we as a site are lost in an identity crisis. Some want to be just like Comp Diesel and make this a nothing but tech site, and some want to just use the place to hang out. Until the decision is made on which way it will go and it is taken in that direction, it will just continue to tear itself in half. As I have said, where the staff go, the membership will follow. The staff here has torn itself apart trying to split in different directions and the membership is now doing it also.
So to the ownership, staff and membership I say, PICK A DIRECTION AND GO WITH IT. Right or wrong, it can't be any worse then what is happening right now.

To me DB is and always has had that identity. A little more tech certainly wouldn't hurt. I feel like the site has gotten to be ALL bs and joking and talking etc... but NOTHING about trucks at all. I don't see why we can't have both personally. If you want a place to BS and chit chat, there are also tons of other sites out there for that as well, just as there is sites that are all hardcore tech. There's no reason why we can't have a good combination of both. At least that's the way I see it. Thanks for the insight though Uncle Bubba. A lot of us were not around back then, so we never knew these kinds of things.

Um... what? No it's not. There is a section just like that on basically every diesel forum I'm on, and it's a LOT of them. I don't think the badlands is what makes this site special, IMO it's the people here. Are you even on any other diesel forums? I'm trying to think of one that doesn't have an off topic area for entertainment purposes and I'm having trouble coming up with one. Even my crappy little local club that has a low budget forum has one...

Yeah there is a section in every diesel site just like the bad lands. Or at least all the ones Ive been on. Cummins forum has the Off Topic section, East rice when it was around was that way, Ford Diesel Power Does, Powerstroke Nation does. And many more! The only reason you say that is because you must be afraid to venture out and see something useful maybe? Or go around to other sites and see what they have.
