Buy a big jar of pickles.
Eat the pickles. Boil eggs. Place eggs in pickle juice. Voila pickled eggs! If you really want a good pickled egg and if you have the land for it then build a chicken coop and buy barred rocks, red comets, and Japanese oriental bantam's. That will give you good sized brown eggs from the rocks and the comets. The reason you want the barred rocks teaching the comets is that the barred rocks are very friendly and you can pick them up and carry them around without being pecked or hollered at. Even my red comet rooster likes to be carried around the yard because they have been around the rocks growing up. The bantam's produce VERY small golf ball sized eggs that are absolutely heaven. They are very delicious and in pickle juice it's just the best pickled egg I have ever had in my life. This isn't my bantam but she looks exactly like this one. Tiny with a big long tail. http://img.tapatalk.com/ae8339c6-0a0b-ca43.jpg |
Wow!!:s: I just got schooled on chickens and pickled eggs :tu:
If I'm ever in the market for chickens I'm calling you :c: |
Hey no problem! I'll even take pictures of my chicken coop and how it's built. If you plan on building a coop then comfort and cleanliness is key. They produce more eggs if there is more room and more "creature comforts" like constant renewing water, steps up to the coop, padded laying boxes, unlimited food, etc... It's really not a coop but like a chicken resort! Haha
Here is my friendly rooster! http://img.tapatalk.com/ae8339c6-dc6f-68ba.jpg |
I have the chickens, coops and all....that's why I want a recipe. We have Americunas, RI-NH red hybrids, Partridge Rocks.....
