2001 International 4700 Gauge problems, power problems

Im new here and just recently purchased a 2001 International 4700 with the DT466E and allison automatic. My gauges sometimes work, sometimes they stick, and most of the time they dont do nothing. My fuel gauge and coolant gauge work most of the time, but the tach, speedo, volt, and oil pressure are the ones i normally have problems with. Is this a common problem? Also, my dad has a 4900 with the dt466 in it and it has TONS more power it feels like. His however is a manual shift. Mine has the auto that feels sluggish and tachs out at 2800 at a blazing 55 MPH. This seems awful slow. Do I have a problem are just a gear ratio issue? Thanks in advance for the help....:humm:

if it only go's 55mph @ 2800rpm's I'd say you have way low gears, far as the gauges I have no clue. :s:

The gauges sticking are a common problem in those trucks. The way to fix it is to take the cluster out and take the back cover off. then look closely at the circuit board and you should see small breaks in the connections that need to be soldiered back together. Once its soldiered back together it should work like new again.

Yep, as mentioned above, it's common to have bad connections behind the cluster.
You're lucky it gets to 2800, the newer ones go to 24-2600max. Re-gear, and more power will make it much better. The mechanical 466 fuel harder at lower rpm than the 466E, and only custom tuning can give that good torquey feeling. A quick power solution is to swap out to BP injectors. My not be drastic, but it's noticeable.

I wish I had read this earlier. I pulled the cluster out to inspect the connections and to put dielectric grease on them to see if that would fix it. I will pull it again and inspect the board and resolder if needed. It seems as if I have another problem. The truck has a miss in it now, it hardly wants to rev. Checked intercooler boots, fuel filter, air filter, ecu connections, etc. Im guessing its got a stuck/bad injector. I only got the truck yesterday, so I am still trying to get it running right? Its only got 196K on it. I wonder if it could be a ecm problem? Thanks again gor the help :argh:

A miss or stumble could be a few things, like low HPOP/ICP pressure, or possible injector issue. Hint-hint, the Alliant number for the injectors is AP-63814BP.:tu:

Also, i bought the truck for a clean up rig. Im trying to find some info on what I actually have. The truck has a lift bed assembly inside the frame rails with a pintle hitch on the back of it. I bought a swacar trailer with it. The hoist assembly lifts up and lifts the front of the trailer around 15 ft. in the air to dump the trailer. I had never seen this type of setup. Does anyone know what I have or its called? I was going to buy another dump trailer, but i figured this was a better option.:humm:

Its kinda hard to see, but this is it. This isn't the one I got, but its identical to it.

the dashes in these trucks are always trouble, suprised to see you have a fuel gauge :w2: the sending units on them are junk, the engine problem started when international added the E to the 466,I have never seen one run right after they are a few months old,had a 01 4900 dt466e and it suffered from major electrical issues,we now have a 04 7600 w/dt530e and it has been electrical nightmare along with faulty injector tubes and headgaskets :argh:
But I also have a 95 4900 w/dt466 275 hp mech and love it best fuel mileage out of the bunch and I am building another 95 8100 with a dt530 300hp mech hoping to get a little more hp out of it:w2:

Ha, well thats comforting. Like I said, my dad runs a 4900 with a DT466 and its a tank. Tons of power and never had a problem with it. Maybe I can get this thing figured out and actually figure out what kind of truck/assembly I actually have. :c:
