There are a few 6V53's, and 6V71's as well. Anything else is a pretty difficult fitment due to size, but with time, money, and talent, anything is possible. |
totally on my to do list. the smaller V6 :U:
wouldnt it sound good in a pulling truck on the track
yeah i was thinkin a 6v53 and i was gonna put it in an old 72 chevy c30 figured it looked to have alot of room under the hood and im gettin ready to receive a fairly large bonus i just love the sound of them good ol detroits
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- i was also wondering what kind of tranny should i mount on the back of it thatd work good |
I think that your best bet for a tranny would be an allison...maybe a 545 (they are cheap). I dont know a lot about the detroits, but I do like them. I think that the detroits like to run good full out, and the auto would allow you to keep it in the peak rpm range.
my personal reccomendation because i've actually rebuilt one of these. would be the Detroit 8.2 liter, turboed. good for high rpm's, reliable, really strong, and very easy to work on. no computer necessary or nothin, plus its really smooth with a good sound! :choochoo:
you couldnt give me an 8.2. biggest pos detroit even built. put a turbo 6v53 in it. find a truck with a straight axle though. guy at my shop is in process of repowering his truck but isnt gonna use it because the engine wont fit with IFS.

I am running a 6V53n in my 65 f250 4x4 and the biggest problem i have is breaking the front axle due to the 1600 lb motor.
i have a 453t in my half ton chevy. its a blast to drive. im running an mt653 allison auto. i beefed up the front end. it takes the weight just fine!

for a tranny since u want to go with a 2 stroke detroit u should throw everyone for a loop and some how rig it up to put a 2 stick in it. even if u put an auto in it rig up a floor shifter then mount urself a second shift lever in there then ull have people really wonderin:humm:
many differnet transmission options crossed my mind. but they get alot of money for brownie boxes and spicer mains. i picked up this allison for 250 bucks! works mint!:rocking:
u dont need an actual 2 stick just do some riggin and make it look like there is one in it:tu:
someday im gonna do this:rocking:

Streetwires, that thing is awesome. I love the sound and the appearance!
Get it back in shape- it is a real looker!:tu: |
Most excellent-brings back the good old days-love the 2 stroke:jump:
I think a 67-72 4X4 Blazer with a 4-53T and a SM 465 Chevy transmission would be about as cool as it gets.

Here ya go:c:
Saweeet Hotrod truck called "Piss'd Off Pete" |
I have a '84 F350 with a 453T in it. I fell in love with the sound of that engine when Grandpa installed it in his '70 F250 back in 1979 (I was 11 years old). The engine was so too heavy, so he had to put airbags under the front. In the '90s he bought the F350 and moved the engine over. It has the stock 4-speed with a 3-speed Brownie behind it. I got to drive the original truck when I was 14 and thought I was in heaven. I've dreamed of owning it ever since. Grandpa passed away last fall and I bought it from the estate. I miss Grandpa, but having the truck helps.
