Keep looking man! If anything, get with a company that isnt HUGE, and pull a refer trailer. I loved pulling refer.
Good luck!

It would be more profitable to pull a trailer full of Refer. What about doing heavy equipment?

Reefer unit is the backup plan. I want to get into heavy equipment, oversize loads, stuff like that, more $$$.

PM me if you want the real deal about Werner. I work for Gra Gar ( the maintance division of Werner) and I see first hand how they treat there drivers.

I recently went through retraining also and got my CDL and learned to drive the big rigs. It was a blast and i really liked driving with a van trailer. The school i attended had bad news about going to work for Werner. They told all of us to stay away from them unless it was a last resort for a job. Ill have to agree, we were also told that a newbie would be in the truck and not see his home for the first 3 months of employment and also have a ride along trainer with them. Not my cup of tea! We were also told to stay away from Crete Carriers that they were even worse about home time.

Ex-Werner driver checking in. I did the whole truck driving school program and did the 300hrs werner training program. The recruiters promise you the world and great pay and its all lies. When they tell you what you will start out at its an avg. pay over the entire company. What it really ends up being is 23cents a mile average and good luck getting any home time. They told me if I stayed out the whole 300hrs they would give me a week off after I completed it. So I stayed out for 2months, completed my training then came back to the terminal. They issued me a truck the next day and sent me right back out on the road. When I asked them about the week off that the guy in orientation said I would get, they just kinda laughed and said good luck with that. I hear swift isnt much better and there trucks are governed at 62mph and they are hated by every driver in the country. I have been told Swift stands for Sure Wish I Finished Training, lol. I would look for a local day cab operation or work in the oil field driving frac units.

well, I'm halfway through my training and heres an update:
I'm driving a brand new freightliner century with a detroit and 9spd, jales, cruise, tilt, pretty much loaded! it's governed @ 67mph, and I can pull most hill/gradess loaded with 42-44k of goods @ 60+mph. I'm put up in a hotel every weekend. I get 2 shower every other day. my trainer springs for meals several times a week. I have medical and dental benefits for a family of 6 for $55.00 a week. I'm going 2 be delivering for there sears account @ $.32 per mile and home every weekend. everything has been great so far!

I'm glad I listened to all of the negative feedback about Werner!

Just because someone said they heard something doesn't mean it's true!

A job is only what you make out of it!

1. You won't have that hotel when you're running solo.
2. Ask your trainer why he's paying for your meals out of his own pocket.
3. You can shower every day at a truck stop, and hotels have bathrooms. Umm..
4. Don't get too cocky....you're still a rookie with a LONG way to go. :tttt:
5. Glad things are good up to this point. :)

Wow!
Is that .23/ mile really about $11.50 / HR? (And I realize that's only when you are actually cruising for a full hour!) (If so, the .32 is about $16?)
