Turning up a 8.3 cummins
My dad owns a 98 Sterling L7501 dumptruck. It has a 250hp 8.3L Cummins. The truck is bone stock with only 27,000 miles. We were wondering if there is any way to get more out of this truck without costing to much money.
Thanks Mike |
we have a 93 f800 with a 8.3
it has the same p7100 pump my 5.9 has. you can put a torque palt in it. gutt the afc turn the star wheel. you can also buy marine injectors and such for it also. http://www.cmdmarine.com/commercialinboards.html |
Depends on what pump it's got on it I guess, a P pump is fairly simple a cheap but if it's got a VP style pump then your looking at a programmer to get the gains.
|
does the 8.3 come with a vp???
i have never seen one my self. all the one's i have seen where all inline pumps. |
It would be dependant on the age of the motor and what Tier it belongs to I think.
|
being a 98 its probably an inline pump, i think they stayed inline longer then the 5.9's did, two of our firetrucks have VP 8.3's
|
Yeah, basically you open the hood and look. I don't know for sure.
|
of course marine and on the road is different in some aspects
i know that even the new 8.3 now are still using an inline pump. i'm not sure if it's still the p7100 or maybe somthing bigger now? |
I will check it this weekend we do some maintenance on it and I will report back.

OTR 8.3s are outfitted with a electronic rotory type pump im assuming that its a VP
