Default Anyone Know How To Run The Overhead On A Big Cam Cummins?

I'm needing to run the overhead on my 87 model Freightliner. I'd really like to try this myself. They want around $200 to do at a local shop. I dont have jakes. I'm pretty sure I have a 315 big cam cummins in it. I'm not real sure it could be a 350 or 400. Theres no id tag.

It's fairly easy to do. You will need to find A,B,& C on your accessory drive pulley. The marks will be near the front cover on the pulley. Also, you will see a arrow like pointer on the cover. That is what you line the marks up with. You then will set the valve lash to .011 on the intake and .023 on the exhaust. The intake valves are the center ones under each valve cover. You will set the lash in this order. You verify where to start by determining which set of valves are closed, meaning which rocker arms are loose. The injectors should be set to 6in.lb. or snug with a screwdriver. Any other questions feel free to PM me.

Valve Inj.
A 3 6
B 6 2
C 2 4
A 4 1
B 1 5
C 5 3

The first thing I will say is buy yourself a shop manual---nothing is more embarissing than having a mess up ---On this if you run the overhead and get things on the wrong stroke you can bend and break pieces
