Default Dt466 performance

New to the forum, I have a 1985 IH s1954(Crew cab, bed from a f-350, some other interesting junk) powered by a Dt466 that uses the Bosch MW injection pump. I've done a lot of research and I already know the MW can't fuel like the A or P pump but I'm trying to make due with a broke college kid budget and determination to make 250-300 hp at the NHRDA Desert Diesel drags. I already adjusted the simple low boost low rpm fueling and cranked the gov springs. I know somewhere in that pump there is a fuel plate and or torque plate as well as delivery valve adjustments and timing that can be done but I need helpful insite on how to tweak with these things. If I could end up with at least 200cc's I should be happy(since stock was 89...) also I'm removing that tiny t04 turbo and slapping a borgwarner s475(just waiting on my .90a/r t4 exhaust housing). I have a feeling the rest of the drive train will be ok with the extra power since I have the rt6610 trans and 3.73's in the rear. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

You can make that with an MW pump. Take off the fuel nuts on the back of the pump(see vid below), and it should be in the 160cc range. There's no fuel/torque plate, just the 2 jamb nuts on a stud. It can get to around 180cc if it's a 10mm pump. Big injectors will really help too. It's gonna take a while to spool a single S475, but the .9 housing will help a little. I'd say to put the timing around 22-24.

Thanks for the reply! Now do I loosen the nuts to where it's flush like in the video or just remove them completely? Also what kind of injectors can I get for this? Like the same kind in a 12 valve cummins or are they different? Also I read somewhere on the low boost adjustment that the little stud can be completely removed but it'll just get pretty hot, what are your thoughts on that?

Depends on the use. If it's just a drag race, take out the nuts on back and the screw on top. There's lots of injector options. A good place for used ones is at pull off.com in the classifieds. Go for up to a 5X17, but a 5x13 is about right. A 4x20 will do it, but they burn pretty dirty. They are quite different than a 12v, but function the same.

That changes a lot. Daily driver cant handle that much fuel for very long. Leave the fuel nuts on, like in the video. Also leave the screw on top in place. Being an 85 gets you very limited, since it probably doesnt have any kind of intercooling. Dont even look for bigger injectors, until it has one. Make sure to watch EGT on long hills. Getting up to speed empty really isnt an issue, because a heat spike wont last that long. On that thought, it'll get old waiting for the big turbo to spool. Best bet is to trade someone for an S362, or add one to your 475 for some real good air flow.
Super cool truck!

Ahh ok I see, so what would you say is the cc difference between how it is now and if the screw and nuts were to be removed? I may just trade a buddy for his hx40 hybrid in that case. I'm thinking an intercooler off a first Gen cummins, would that be too small though? And Thanks, it needs some work but slowly it's getting better!

It's about a 20 or so cc difference. Try it with the nuts out, after you swap to that Hyb40. A first gen cooler will choke out at a certain point, but not likely at your power level. Did you buy it with the hood mods?

Ok that shouldn't be too bad since I'm only shooting for 300hp. And I did buy it with those lights already installed but the guy who did it did a terrible bondo job so I bought another hood and I'm planning either build some fancy pod lights or get some off the new super duty's when available.
