1988 International Restoration

Well, finally we started restoring my dads 1988 International 9300 this winter. He's owned a lot of trucks over the years since he owns an excavating company, but the significance of this truck is that it was his first ever brand new truck in his name, and one of our family friends (who passed away from cancer) used to drive the truck.

It has a Caterpillar 3406B and Eaton/Fuller 13 speed with 3.73 rears. It has 986,000 miles, all as a dump truck, and it has been out of daily use for 4 years now. The motor was overhauled and has 150,000 miles on it. The plan is to turn it into a parade truck, and we're leaving the wet kit on it to use on our big aluminum tri-axle end dump occasionally.

Here's the before picture right after I got her running after 2 years sitting idle. Put new batteries in it, and she fired up on the first try in 10 degree weather! As you can see, it's had a pretty hard life.

And there she is with the 5th wheel plate on, and the new wheels and tires mounted!

Here's the bracket I made for the tail lights and the mudflaps. We left the pintle hitch on to move stackers for our screening plant.

And that's it until she gets out of the body shop!

Nice! Glad to see you ditching the dayton hubs for modern wheel ends. Much easier tire and brake service:rocking:

Thanks!

You bet. Those Daytons have the old classic look but they're just a pain in the ass.
