nice but that engine should of been black or beige painting it yellow will make it leak oil and be gutless

 

That's an old gold Cummins color. After it was painted I thought it looked like a Cat. My Dad's 1964 Diamond T had a 220 in it that was the same color. Of course It did scatter.... I was trying to make the engine look like one from the 1950's. Keep the comments comming.

 

I remember when all the Cummins you ever saw were that color. That's a beautiful rig. I have driven probably a greater variety of rigs in my life than almost anybody since I had another career and mostly drove part time which I still do. Being part time I got whatever rig happened to be left and available in the yard. Sometimes that was a good thing sometimes not. However I never had the opportunity to drive an Autocar. Quite a few KW's and Freightliners, some Peterbilts, a few Internationals, several Diamond Reos and probably a couple hundred Macks. Or more.

 

Thanks for the comment.It's a fun truck to drive. The original engine was 145 HP when it was brand new. It's pretty tired now. The 8.3 is 250 hp so it should be a blast to drive when it's completed. I also think the 7 speed will be easier to shift than the Autocar 5 sped that's in it now.

 

That will be a really sweet rig when you git r done! Just don't lose heart and let it get to you. It looks like you are quite a ways along so that may not be an issue.

I restored/restified my Dad's '67 W200 which I had wanted since he bought it new. Took about 4 years to tear every nut and bolt off and put it all back. There were times I never wanted to see that rig again but after I got it on the road it was all worth it. It's been rolling almost 12 years now and needs some work again but not like back then.

 

Thanks. I've had the truck for 12 years. I did a frame off restoration of it and put over 2000 miles driving it,I know what you mean though. It's time to update it so It's more reliable . I also have a 1926 John Deere D that I want to restore and haul with the truck.

 

That will be very cool. I like seeing that kind of stuff. Myself I'm an AC guy and have a '59 D-14 that needs quite a bit of work which I hope to get done someday. Also have '69 340/4 speed Swinger that I have not started in probably 20 years but at least it's under cover. I have been told I don't have enough life left to finish all the things I need/want to do and while that may be true I'm going to keep at it. Pretty slow since I have a real rambunctious 2 1/2 year old grandson that I am caring for and he leaves me very little time. He does love being with his Poppy and mechanical things so maybe eventually he will be giving me a hand. I wish you were closer as I would love to eyeball that rig. BTW, not this one but Dad also bought new one of the very last D-14's built and I had more seat time on that rig cutting/raking hay than I like to think about. Only good thing about that was it beat hauling the hay.

 

I'm a John Deere guy, but if I ever found an unstyled AC WC that needed a good home... Thanks for the reply.

 

This is a pretty good AC site and seems like a lot of the guys are over on your side of the world. I see WC talk fairly often.
