2nd gen sub box, subs and amp?
hey guys, looking to add a little "thump" to my truck, any particular boxes youd recommend? im lookin at Alpine type R subwoofers now with probably an Alpine amp of an unknown amperage yet. Id like to keep as much of my stereo Alpine as i can, as i feel components of the same brand play better together and sound better.
However, if anyone has any suggestions/comments your more than welcome to reply with em, im looking for ideas and options so let me know. Im very up in the air about a box! |
:pca1: havin the same thought process. It's hard to find boxes for our trucks.

Treo Engineering all the way! I have one 12 that will put my friends two 15's to shame:yeah:

Hy Cummins Crazed,
just a small note: Don't have that "stick-to-the-brand" feelings. Yes, it is intended by the manufacturer, but there is no reason to do so. All brands are following ISO standards. They don't care what is behind or in front of a sound system. So you can feel free to choose from the wide variety of electronics. It's a fact that Japanese are still not that good in subs. And every real american prefers a .45 over a .38, right? So as a short summarization american made amps and subs are still of a very high value- at least in europe! Just remember a single thought. What you buy is what you get. Don't get distracted by blinking Led's or lights on amps. Do you want to listen to your hard earned dollars or just watching Tokyo at night? I will not tell you what to buy- there are so many dealers knowing better. Just spend some time there and make sure they don't use any bass extenders or equlizers and stuff like that. This will be the main guarantee that you will enjoy your sound for many, many years. |
im runnin a pro box with 2 10s and it sounds great

Custom fiberglass bottom box housing 2 - 12" Orions. They sound really good!
|
I have a custom box from bright star car audio. Its for 2 12'' to go under the seat. Its pretty tight but it fits good and sounds good. You have to buy shallow mount subs though. I bought shallow mount pioneers and sounded great. I'm getting rid of my 98, and i'm selling my box. Let me know if interested.

ooooh, 2 12" subs....id LOVE THAT! all i can find is boxes foe 2 10" subs!

If you are looking for a big amp in a small footprint, look into Soundigital, or Stetsom. They are packing big power.
As far as subs go, 90% of the sound quality is in the box/install. You could make some rear seat spacers/risers to give you a little bit more room to work with which will open up your sub options. Pick your subs to match your airspace available. |
ok...how do i know what "air space" is avail?
|
Build a box to fit under there, without the sub cutouts. Measure/calculate internal volume. Go shopping for subs in that airspace range. Also you will know mounting depth and size of sub you can run then.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also, airspace is usually measured in cu/ft. So you want the total interior volume in cubic ft. Then you have to subtract the subs displacement, and see if it matched the airspace requirements for the subs. 1 12" sub can sound better in the right box, than 2 10" in too small a box. |
Obcon makes a really nice box, you can find on amazon for like $100 !
That's what i'm planing on doing come tax time ! |

i'm wanting to put my subs under my seat but if you dont need your back seat you can go many routes. To me the best brand out there would have to be JL audio, they're like the cadillac and then rockford fosgate would be next they're like the chexy you could say both are FANTASTIC brands. I feel that JL hands down makes the best amps available but with that comes price. Rockford makes great subs which is what I run with my JL 250 watt amp. I have the rockford p1 subs and you can get either 10's or 12's but they are a very efficient sub. my 25o watt amp will put all of my buddies systems to shame and they've got fifteens and have put way more into it than i have just my two cents......:choochoo:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- If you could could you pm me with the box as well please |
