"higher end" audio pointless in diesel?
 

in my last 5.9 i had a couple zapco dc amps and a set of morel speakers. between the road noise from the larger tires, engine, and exhaust it killed the sound from the speakers. dynamiting the doors and rear wall did help, a little.

my current 5.9 has a set of jl audio speakers in the front and rear and some POS amp.

buy a couple of apline pdx or kenwood xr amps and keep it simple?

I do drive a Diesel (of course:w2:) and I also have installed a bit better than average sound system.
Yes, I do have more road noise than a gasser, but I don't use AT or MT tires.( I do switch to AT when needed).
I also use a Dynamic noise covering system (DNC) which regulates frequencies and volume dependent to speed and road noise via a noise pick up microphone.

I wouldn't call Morel or JL cheap speakers, but they do need a lot of more work to develop their superior sound abilities.
Wrong placement or mismatched housings have an fatal effect on sound.

Using sound deadeners in the door and the rear wall are a good beginning, you simply have forgotten the floor, the firewall and also the roof.
Diesels are a bit more demanding to achieve an impressive sound image.
But an impressive sound is already delivered by the great engine, don't you think?

i wanted to try the Second Skin line of products but i'm short on time.

going to start with the floor then work my way around the interior.

i have high end sound in my truck and hear it great i love it

with the stock infinity system in my truck and the jl w3 subs I think it sounds real good, I even have 5'' strait piped to a 8" stack and 37" mud tires, I really dont have to turn it up very much to be able to hear every good and the noise stays out pretty good, I can crank my system and you can not really hear it from the outside at all, until you roll a window down or open a door. I dont know if the newer ones are just built alittle better with sound proofing or not.

What ever you use take your time for the install. The more time you invest the better are the results.
There is no need for those expensive dynamats,or so called noise-ex mats. Have a look at them, those bitumenbased sheets do only stick in a better looking wrap, costing you your money (or do you think Chip Foose works for free?:nope:)

On the floor you can go with every brand. Even bitumen used for the roof is good enough. It will be thicker too!

I have got good results with filling the space behind the trunk covers. It kills a lot of roadnoise. No space-no resonances.

If you want to "hear" your success drive to a dealer and ask him to measure your road noise with a dB-meter.
After insulating measure again.
A drop by -3db results in 50% noise drop!

My plan for sound proofing involves some Lowe's peel and seal, Closed cell foam, and Mass loaded vinyl. The peel and seal is only $20 for a roll or so, don't remember on the foam( may not use it anyways) and the MLV is only 1.50 or so per SQ. FT. Should be able to sound deaden for fairly cheap.

i'm all about taking my time. i love working on my own cars / trucks and knowing the job is done right!

i went with the dynamat because someone on craigslist was unloading a good amount of it real cheap.

i like the rear wall install because it would take a thief a good amount of time to get the amps out of the truck.
