Capictor

I got my alamani 2F capcitor in today with monster cable wire, and my Orion amp it makes the bass deeper and clearer. I never thought one could do that but now I'm true believe I will have one in every system from here on out:c:

capacitors are awesome

u can relocate ur batts to right next to the amp. I used to run 4 in a pathfinder and a 5k amp it rocked. 148 dp everyday. But caps do work well:jump:

Ya They are the best I'm runnin between 11.36 and 12.0 volts and I'm pushin my Lanzar's I can't wait till my buddy pays for the Lanzars and I can but my kickers I bet they would sound awesome with my amp and Cap. I also like the shinny blue lights:tttt: that stay on with the cap

between 11.36- 12Volts? Wow, you must have a very high drain, or your battery is done. That's not good, because your amp needs a lot of current.
Whats your regular voltage without music?
Have you already thought about an alternator upgrade?

cowboyford16 05-11-2010 11:30 AM

The battery is probily drained its been broke down for a few days so when I go out to mess with it I listen to the music and crank it over to see where my problem is. But when the key is out the cap sits a 12.0. Alternator is brand new 140 amp about six months old or less

Deezel Stink3r 05-11-2010 01:02 PM

That's to low! You should have around 12.6V with no load.
But you have to look at it after 24hours to give the battery time to recover.
Is your cap not further as 8" away from the amp located?

If you have a DMM check the voltage at the battery too, please.

cowboyford16 05-11-2010 01:19 PM

Ok, I didn't charge it. I never knew you had too...:humm: My cap is about 9-11 inches I couldn't get 8 inches bud to tight of a fit behind the seat. I grounded the cap with monster cable then I ran the wire from the batt. in then hooked up the wire from my amp. after all that was done. I hooked my batt. back up and no music it showed 12.0 volts and with my music up it was bouncing around 11.36-11.69 or so. How do I charge it I thought thats were the volt ange is suppose to be. My bro gave it to me a long time ago and had no intructions or no research on it:nope:

A car audio amp works in the following way.

The 12 DC volts comes into the amp.
Next: the voltage gets electronical chopped and converted into AC- This is necessary because only AC can be transformed into another higher needed voltage.
After the transformation you have a voltage around 40 to 50V inside the amp. This voltage is needed to drive the amplifier and to get the needed power output.

This is also one of the reason an amp gets so hot. There is a lot of heat loss during the transformation of the voltage and in the power stages.

Without that transformation your output would be around 10 to 20 W-thats it.

The problem is: the lower the input voltage(12V)- the lower or instable is the output.
This is the main reason, why you use those huge, thick power cables.

To have a low voltage drop and to be able to transfer lots of current.

cowboyford16 05-11-2010 01:40 PM

Ok I always wanted to know that lol. But how do I charge the cap to what you said about 12.6 volts

Deezel Stink3r 05-11-2010 01:49 PM

The cap only takes that what the battery and the alternator delivers.
For that reason I asked about the voltage at the battery. If you have a high voltage at the battery(12.6V) and a low one at the capacitor(12V) your voltage drop is to high. You are missing 0.6V then.
Thats not much? Ha, put a headlight bulb on 12V and than on 12.6V - you will see the difference.

Its the same with an amp! You will hear the difference!:rocking:

cowboyford16 05-11-2010 02:29 PM

ok bud I understand now I apperciate the help its probily because my batt. is low haven't charged it in a few days while its been broke. I will throw a charger on it when I get home tonight

cowboyford16 05-12-2010 07:19 PM

well I finally got the part for my truck and I started her up and let her charge for a while and then I turned my system up and now I'm pushin between 12.5 and 14.96 volts it sounded like they were poundin harder:choochoo:
