driver side speakers off and on

Well i have a 99 cummins with the speaker on the piller. since i got the truck all the driver side speakers work some times and not others. i had a shop put a new CD player in my truck thinking maybe it was the head unit and it still does it does anyone know what the prob might be?

Could be a loose wire on the speaker, or maybe a bad connection on the speaker.

The infinity amp mounted on the speaker in the front door is going out, I have the same thing going on in My 99 right now.

does the back speaker and the tweeter on the piller not working also?

the wires in the door boots on dodges break on a regular basis, i repair at least 2 week, and when you pull it appart you may find its not just the speaker wires that were broken but other ones about the break all the way through as well

If you have components (seperate mids/highs) in your truck, there's a good chance you could have a factory amp also somewhere... I've seen half the amps go out before (ex. left side or right side)... Long story short, if this is the case, you would need to replace the amp (that is if you have one)... If just one speaker or set (mid/tweeter) is going out - start at your speaker and work in sections back to your head unit, checking for bad connections, broken wires, crimped wires, split wire sheathing, etc... Obviously, replace or repair if broken... Other than that, i don't know what else would cause your problems... Hope this helps...

If they cut in and out with no correlation to your driving then it is prob an amp, if they cut out when you hit a bump that would sound more like a poor connection. But the amp going out sounds like a likely culprit.

where are the amp in a 99 dodge? it hasnt worked now in um prob 4 months and once i find the amp is there a way to test to make sure its the amp before try and find a new one

First you would need to find out if there is a factory amp... I would start with looking on your factory head unit for a name other than dodge, delco, etc... Names such as Monsoon, Bose, Pioneer, etc... If you don't find aftermarket names, then chances are you don't have a factory amp which means your amp would be one with the head unit, which also means replacing head unit to fix... Check with a dealership's parts counter to be sure also...

If you do have a factory amp (seperate from the head unit), then it will have a harness type adapter plugged into it... Unfortunantly, these harnesses are all assortments of colors... If you can find a wiring diagram online of these colors then you can run a few test to check it out, but chances are you can't fix it yourself anyways...

If it was me, I think it would be time to go ahead and invest in ALL aftermarket parts... From headunit, to speakers, and amp(s), wires, etc... I have a Pioneer head unit, (4) Sony 6.5" mids/highs, MTX amp, and (1) JL Audio 10" sub in custom box... Cranking it up will make you smile and it cost less than $800 for all (ebay)... Good investment to me!

If your truck has the infinity stereo. The boxes on the 6x9's are the amp and the rear speakers are tied into the same wire harness. This might help.

Good Luck,

John
