Default Transmission???

I have a 1999 dodge with a 47re transmission, Well when im driving around in between 40 to 50 the truck seems like it doesnt know what what gear to go in. It will shift down to fourth then back up to over drive. and it will stop when i get to 55 mph. Any suggestions???

Well seeing that 47re are only a 4 spd transmission. fourth gear is the overdrive in these transmissions. what you are feeling is most likely your lock up converter going in and out. try adjusting your apps, do a search on here there are several threads on how to do it. That would be my suggestion first.

I've been reading some threads about some kind of rewire that ats diesel has that can fix this problem. And if that doesnt seem to work. They have this product called the "Sponge" its not on their website you have to call and order it. What the sponge does it obsorbs electrical noise from the alternator that cause the torque converter to lock up. This could be better explained from somebody else. I'm gonna try this out also to see if it works.
Heres the link on the rewire.

I just zip tied the ground wire running by the alternator further away from it. Has not done it since and that has been not quite a year. I did have my alternator tested and it failed one of the tests. It does seem to charge OK but I am guessing that is the likely issue on my rig at least.
