the screen under the high pressue pump is missing from my 2004 f350 6.0. Does it have to be there and where can I find another.
And will an external oil cooler work better than the one on it.

You defiantly want the screen and any ford dealer ship should have it. As for as the cooler I always replace them when doing a new hpop. I don't know anything about an external one maybe someone else could chime in

 

The old screens were fiber and ripped... a lot. The new upgraded one from Ford will suffice, it uses a stainless steel mesh now. Ford High Pressure Oil Pump Filter Screen

The bulletproof external coolers are nice for sure, if you've got the coin. I'm just planning on rebuilding my stock oil cooler myself.
