Cummins 12v Question
I am thinking about using a 12v to power my 85 Chevy K30 CCSB project. If I was to find an engine with about 100-150,000 miles on it, would it require a rebuild? I know the KDP needs to be addressed. New to the diesel world and I don;t want to short change myself. Check compression and redo all the seals and gaskets?
Rebuild no as long as it was a good runner obviously but I'd def redo the seals and gaskets. No time is better then when you have it out of the truck. But when you do the kdp you will be addressing the 2 main areas it developes leaks. Front cover gasket and front main seal.
Mine had 545500 when I pulled it out of the donr, rest that scrapper truck hmmmmm sheetmetal
I fixed the front seal and checked the kdp and found it was gone. it has always leaked oil since, year later I'm embarassed where i part it, bladder control and all. the kdp did a number on the rear timing cover and now it leaves a mess where ever it goes.... now I have to pull the cam and pump
