Default Manual trans

Got to thinking on my last round robbin, has anyone tried to mate say a 5-6-7spd spicer or meritor trans to our 5.9L6? Was thinking that would be a bullet proof HD trans, in a 1-ton. May be something I look into doing later on.

Yes a bunch of people have done it. It is the way to go if you tow. The 5600s, 4500s and g56 can only take so much. The best options are the fuller 6 speeds. they have a good OD, they are easy to rebuild and they are tough. The spicers are harder to get parts for but can be used. Im mostly done collection parts form my swap. im using a RTO6610 Which is a nonsycro ten speed.

Ok so where or how are you supplying air for the splitter, do you have a remote compressor or an add on mod to the motor? You have my full attention, At one time I pulled smooth bore tankers and had developed a real smooth shift to keep the surge to a minnimum.

remote compressor. The splitter uses almost no air. i knew an oldtimer who said he lost air one time and rigged it up to us the spare as a tank and he filled it up once a week till he got it fixed. thats prolly tall but air supply is one of the easier things to deal with.

Like a said, i cant get some of my links right now because CF has blocked the IP here at the library But look at this,

These guys need to learn to skip gears but you get the point. they are all starting in 1st when 4th or 5th would make more sense in an empty pickup. I havent done my swap yet but i expect to be driving 4th-6th-8th-10th empty. those are close to the ratios of a nv4500 minus 1st.

68 power wagon w/ cummins and 10 speed

an antique with a 94 12 valve and fs5306 start at like the 2:00 mark

a 3500hd chevy with a 5.9 and 13 speed

a 3500 chevy with a cummins and 10 speed
