banks Turbo. how do i get oil pressure down before turbo
Hey yall im new to any of theses sights. ive been a diesel mechanic for awhile and use the hell out of this site so figured i should join. ok here we go. i have a 1984 6.9 diesel. just put a banks t04b on my truck. i didnt get a kit. just the turbo. so i made a y pipe and a down pipe. hooked up an oil line and relocated the OPS and installed a t in the line to go to turbo. i think im puttin way to much oil to the turbo beings im blowing oil out of the stacks. i understand that the turbo seals might be bad, but the amount of oil is a little much for just bad seals, and i am rebuilding it with a major rebuild kit as soon as i find one that dosnt come from china. any suggestions. also i really want a 3 gauge pillar pod. Tan. does anyone know where i can get one?
right now its set up to feed into the valley pan. but the oil just shoots back out of that to. and the line for the return is a little over half inch so i dont think its creating extra pressure and i knew about the fact its just a gravity feed return so u want a big return line. and i did go down to my local international dealer (i actually worked there for a year or so as a mechanic so they always hook me up) and got a line made up and it could possibly be to big. but from what i understand and could be very wrong but those turbos are only supposed to get around 45psi of oil. im not 100% sure what my engine is puttin out but i would hope it would be more then that.
45 psi is good.... mine just pegged out the damn factory gauge....so I have no numbers to contribute to this one.... but 45 is not bad at opp. temp...... go I gotta go get a manual gauge so I can know..... 45 psi shouldn't be too much... unless the seals are shot....then it would be too much pressure..
With my setup NA I ran 20psi warm idle and when turboed at the end of a 2ft long 1/4" braided stainless line I ran 10psi warm idle. Since you drain into valley pan did u punch holes in the little baffle underneath it? Mine would back up and leak like crazy until I punched the holes for it to drain faster.
45psi is max for the turbo. i still have factory gauge so im not certain that that is what its running. but the turbo at high rpm is throwing lots of oil out my stacks. and i think the turbo is getting much more then 45psi when this happens. im going to put a manuel dial gauge in before a inline shut off valve. then put another gauge after it inline before turbo so i can adjust what it is getting fed. hopefully this solves my problem. And 91dirtydiesel no i didnt do that and that is probly my problem there but i was going to remove that all together and plumb a straight pipe thru the center and weld it. shouldnt leak at all then.
