Alternative to GO-GO direct solenoid???
I just read this post about modifiying an EPC solenoid to fit in the hole for the direct drive clutch solenoid in the 5R110 valve body. The EPC solenoid is used because it provides the most pressure of the solenoid. The modification has to do with grinding away part of the "key" fitting that prevents putting the wrong solenoid in a hole.
While it wasn't a conclusive read, I was curious if anyone else had heard of this swap.

I have not, and for $150 I doubt I'll do much research on it vs just buying the part. I'm transmission clueless for the most part. I figure I'm paying the $150 to Doug @ GoGo because he HAS done his homework on it.
I did some reading last night, if you don't have an extra valve body like I do, that's about a $100 solenoid, and you need to file/grind on it to fit in the hole. Further, when the OP was directly asked about any gains, there were no real changes noticed.
I'll just drop the extra $50 on the Go-Go solenoid and know it works.
On the upside, I found an IPB (illustrated parts breakdown) that labeled each of the 7 solenoids...

Sorry, Bombers, my trans is either shot, or about to be, either way, ordered another one with converter, valve body upgrades and return shipping on my core for $2300 from San Tan Transmission in Arizona.

Got my solenoid today! Going to install it Saturday. I'll let y'all know how it goes.
