96 cummins in need of a tranny

hi i am lookin at buyin another cummins what should i look to spend on a tranny it has a 5 speed nv4500 in it guy says it need scyno's but i want to build it so its good for awhile

rebuild it, it isnt hard. very simple transmissions

I would rebuild to stock and make sure the 5th gear fix has been addressed and put the extra money in a good clutch and flywheel why you have it out. Good luck

Yep to stock, I would tear it apart and inspect it before ordering parts. The mainshaft bearing likes to spin on the mainshaft due to not enough torque on 5th gear nut.

If you've never messed around with taking one apart I would bring it to a shop... its not too expensive to rebuild. Stock parts are fine, but id upgrade the clutch while you have it out
