I am looking to buy a another truck but the one I am interested in have a 4:10 ratio. My question is if I put bigger tire on it can I get close of a 3:73 ratio.

4.10s with 315s (or 35 inch) tires makes a very nice combination...if I didn't have a short 5vr, I'd run 35s without a doubt. My truck is 4.10s and NV5600 equipped. 315s will fit the stock wheels and only rub the lower control arm under flex and tight turns.

And unless you tow/haul extremely heavy, a larger Load Range "D" is typically equivalent in actual weight rating to a smaller "E" rated tire...so that gives lots of options. I want to remember my "D" rated 315s were right around 3,000 pounds each and the "E" 265s are 3,300 pounds each? The only thing is you have a lot of sidewall to flex, which makes them feel squirmy at times.

 

Thank's for the info, the truck I am looking at have NV5600. My truck have 285 tire and still have a lot of room around it. I just dont want to have a truck that is drinking to much fuel for no reason, I dont realy tow a lot of weight, no more than 5000 pound maybe 2 time during summer.

 

I run 315's with 4.10's and NV5600. From what I've figured this puts me close to what a truck with 3.73's and stock tires (265/70-17) would be. I think it's a real good combo. 70 mph is around 2100rpm. I don't remeber exact RPM's with the stock tires but it was way to high for me. 315's went on with less than 1000 miles on the truck.

 

I run a 48re with 3.73's, and 35" rubber and I cruise at 1700-1800 down the highway. It is a great setup.

 

Your mileage will suffer around town, takes a little bit to get the larger rubber rolling; even with the 4.10 and manual.

But I found my best mileage with 35s...if you drive reasonably, the drop in RPM makes a huge difference (I used a GPS to gauge my speed). I want to remember it was an almost 15mph difference from stock rubber to 35s? It really made my mileage jump.

 

I just got a 6spd truck with 4.10 and 285 70 17s. runs about 2100-2200 at 65-70mph I'd say. speedo appears corrected so it's pretty close.

I had 2 48re 3.73 trucks before that w/ 37's. running about 1450-1500 65-70mph.

Not a big fan of the high rpms on the freeway... but this thing is killer around town. dropping 6th gear at 35mph avg 19mpg in town so far. doesn't want to do any better than that on the freeway though.

I built a truck for a customer with 6spd 3.73 and 37's. He tows a 35' toyhauler all over the country... actually gives first gear a purpose with sub 20k lb loads.

I'll start off in 2nd or 3rd around town with the dually... his with less gear and 37's single wheel still starts 2nd 3rd just as easily. guessing the rotational mass of alum 20's and 37's is similar or less than my duals on steel.
