fuel shut off soleniod

so i burned up my soleniod on my truck and before i spend the money on a new one i was wondering if any one has found a better way to fuel fuel on and off besides a choke cable. it doesnt take a lot of force to turn on and off so the $200 +/- soleniod seems like a waist.

A friends went on him. When he came to a stop he could step on the brakes and give the accelerator a quick tap and the motor would stall on him.... Could try that
