So I have a 89 dodge d350 cummins and i beleive it has the dana/spicer 70 rear axle. In order to remove the drums I have to pull the axles and remove a bearing nut. I measured it and it came out to 2 9/16 inches so I assumed it was metric. The guy at autozone looked it up and swore it was 2 1/2 inches so i bought the socket and it was a little too small. Does anyone have any experience with this? Im curios on the actual size and where to find a socket the right size. Thanks in advance.

 

I got my socket from O'Reileys and had to Dremel the inside walls thinner and kinda bend them out by pounding it onto the nut on the ground. Sorry I don't recall the size.

 

I use a 2-9/16 socket bought it from the matco tool truck. it's loose on the nut but will work fine .
The thing is it is a rounded hex nut not a standard hex nut

I ended up buying a 2-9/16" socket at carquest (made in USA). It fit snug and worked great. Thanks for the help.

 

chisel and hammer. thats it chisel on a $17.00 lock nut x2 or buy a $17 socket once and be done with it.

 

Come on man! If you know how and take your time, you don't tear anything up man

 

I got the 2 9/16. And made cuts at the angles of the nut all six, then I opened it a bit with 2 pliers and worked great.

I would take a pic before you take a part the brake shoes, springs etc. Will help
