i burn a veggie fuel type mix in my truck and have for 3 yrs now but only in the spring, summer, and fall when overnite temps stay above 30. this year however it seems as if i've used a lot of filters in the beginning of the season so i have diluted the veggie ratio in my fuel by about 50% more. i assumed my stock lift pump was on it's way out. now just lately it's getting a bit cooler and the other day i had a lot of trouble getting truck to run. it acted as if my fuel was gelled, ie knocking real loud,barely able to continue idling, lot of smoke from exhaust. after running for about 20 min it could move under it's own power but lugged up any hills after about 3 miles it was normal.
Now i am told the is a fuel pre-heater but i can't locate a fuse to check as was suggested to me cause the owners manuals i have for it are generic to the vehicle model and don't give specific info in length on the diesel version of my truck. Doe anyone know about this fuse i'm lookin for and how it is marked?

ok, so i found the fuse i was lookin for and it's fine. What do you make of this scenario? any ideas? .... If i don't have a lift pump... what do i have? ..... just my injection pump, is it drawing fuel from tank and boosting pressure for injection also? Sorry still learning, this is my first diesel.

 

the injection pump sucks its own fuel in, the entire supply system works under a vacuum from the tank to the injection pump in the valley.

you can add a lift pump, it will help circulate the fuel in the tank while its running and heat it up, plus make the filters last longer and provide positive pressure to the injection pump.
