just bought an 03 cummins and i was told that the po had traded it in, and then come to find out he ran it with no fluid in the transfer case, can i get away with rebuilding it or will i have to replace it???

 

Alot easier to just replace it.

Depends on where you get parts and if you do it yourself. When I was looking to rebuild mine the chain was over $300 by itself.. Best place to get a "new" one is Jasper. Cheaper than a new one and a better warranty. Just call with your vin number and they'll give you a quote.

 

i had just called them and there cost was 1040 after the core return. and i found one for 700 after the core return. but the chain, i think i found one for 60! new

 

Lucky. Mine is an NV271. It was $1400..

 

ive got the 273 other than it being electric i think everything else is priced decent.
