ok so im gonna buy this tommorow 1999 ext cab auto 139k been looking for a long time now needs complete new exhaust any ideas dont want it to loud but a little would be nice what about this injection pump dowel pin everyone talks about? what type of preventive maintainance should I be looking to do the truck seems to drive and pull nice tranny fluid looks nice and pink pretty dry under the motor and the price seems fair any input would be greatly appreciated thanks Tom
If its the later 99 you shouldn't have to worry about dowel pin.I had a 99 and regretfully sold it I had a edge ez chip and staight exhaust.not to much money those mods

'99 is a 24 valve motor meaning the design of the dowel pin was changed over from the 12 valves, you don't have to worry bout it. And yes, aftermarket lift pump is a MUST, AirDog or FASS being the more popular but there're are more out there. You're also going to need gauges, mainly fuel pressure, tranny temp., and boost.

It's not really bad to pull apart. It's really the best way to know if its a issue. I have only seen 2 vp trucks drop a pin. A 98.5 and early year 99.
There was also a jig available at one point that would allow you to do it without removing the cover

Yup, totally spaced on that, my bad. But it really isn't all that hard to take the cover off to kill it. Plus, this way you can actually check the cover and everything else inside to make sure the pin hasn't already fallen out and hurt something, just to be safe.
