Default turbo question

hey guys I know this has probably been touched on a million times but I need some info. I've got a 96 5spd with a bone stock 215 pump truck is originally from texas so no smog crap luckily. I've already upgraded the clutch and have a #10 plate 4kgsk 60lb springs and 230 injectors all ready to go in. Now I'm wanting to make about 300 hp nothing crazy I only pull a race car and an open trailer together about 6000lbs. Is the stock hx35 good enough to keep the egts managable or could I just change the exhaust housing to a 14 or 16. Or am I just crazy. I really don't want to spend the money for a turbo if I don't have to. Give me your opinions. Thanks.

I think you should be just fine with the stock turbo.
