HD NV4500 Tail Shaft Swap
Hello everyone! Newbie here. I've installed a 12 valve Cummins and a HD4500 2wd tranny into a 1973 W200. Has divorced transfer. My problem is the tail shaft on the HD is too long and only gives me app. 3" between yokes. Question: What would consist of swapping a GM tail shaft with the Dodge. GM is shorter.
https://www.dieselbombers.com/images...inking.gifThat would seem like a easy fix. But that would require the front drive shaft being that much longer and the factory length was long enoughhttps://www.dieselbombers.com/images/smilies/neah.gif
Depending on the year, you should be able to just swap out the mainshaft and the extension housing.
You'll want to stay away from the pre-'95 GM trannies, as I believe that's where the changes were more significant.
If all else fails, call the guys at Zumbrota Bearing and Gear (ZBAG), 1-800-658-2537 and they would likely give you the correct information.
Mark.
