Hey, all. My truck runs perfect when cruising over about 1000 rpms. But when idling it will randomly stall out or start running very rough. It always does it in the morning when it's cold, though. I already had the fuel filter changed, injectors cleaned, and the air charge temperature sensor changed. The truck has 130,000 thousand on it.

 

FCA on the back of the CP-3. Try running either non-detergent engine oil or 2 stroke oil in your fuel for a couple tanks and see if that makes a difference.

Or just replace it, they are about $150.

 

Could also be a bad injector.

 

stevemartin, I'm having the same issue. Only first thing in the morning when its cold. Did you ever get this fixed?

cerberus60, could the FCA really cause this type of issue? What is the theory behind running oil in with the fuel?

dangerous1965, I thought injector as well so I did an injector return flow test and a pump return flow test. Both passed... Any suggestions?

The tests don't rule out a cracke dinjector tip, just the wear in them.A bad tip can give the same symptoms but they never go away.

The FCA sticking will cause a rough idle and dying at an idle. The ULSD has been over refined to remove the sulphur and that has dried it out. The FCA's are picky about lubrication for good operation. The oil in the tank adds back needed lube.

That sounds like maybe due to the grid heaters pulling it down below 12v. Maybe needs new batteries?

 

It has 2 new NAPA premium batteries in it,also cleaned all cables and cleaned ground cable going to ECM.but thank you. Ive always had fords,this dodge has had more problems in 6 months than my ford had in 8 years

 

Lucky you it wasn't a 6.0 otherwise that statement would never have come to mind!

 

I would say thats a true statement,My fords have been 7.3s. The dodge has had a lot of problems though.This stalling when its cold is just icing on the cake.It drives nice,its got alot of power,but the other stuff is to much. I do need to figure out this stalling problem though.
