Default 2011 ram breakin info needed

Ok so traded in the old 08 6.7 the other day and picked up a new ram 2500 cummins had to meny problems with the auto in the last one so went with the stick. So I'm waiting for the motor to breakin before I do the deletes and tuner some one told me 10k was the magic number but I'm looking for a second opinion any ideas would be great.

Agreed, if you drive the dog out of it then do that first off. Somewhere I read that they suggest don't tow for 2k miles but other than that do what you wish. My 01 gets its best milage at 2200Rpms simply because the first 60k miles it pulled a trailer at 55mph with the OD off. So with 33's I get my best milage around 75-80mph.......its awesome!

"when your breaking a motor in drive it how its going to be driven." Amen to that.
10,000 is a good number just to make sure you don't have any warranty work to be done, like loose bolts and nuts and stuff that might have gotten missed at the factory.

I've always found this subject fascinating. I have friends who do this with NEW bikes cars boats all kinds of stuff. Then turn around and baby engines they build, and I give them hell about both. I personally don't start pushing anything hard till after the first oil change and I build how hard I push a lil more with each. My reasoning is castings and other metal are going to break lose differently, and I don't want a bunch all at once, just my way. Like many out there my opinion is based on my experience, which is I have never blown an engine that was within its life expectancy for the purpose it served.

No break in on the motor, just the differential.

With every new engine i let it warm up until its at operating temp then run it like im gonna use it, go ahead and hit wide open throttle but dont hold it there. Head back to the shop let it cool and check bolts oil and water then let it warm up again and run it again. I do that until the first oil change then run it.

A old trucker i knew told me stories of how they would put a fresh cummins in a big truck, roll it out the shop and right under a loaded trailer then head for the hills. He'd smerk and say "Those rings were seated when it came back boy lemme tell you!"
