Cummins Starting Hard
Lately my 2004 dodge cummins has been starting kind of hard. It usually starts right up after a couple of cranks. Now its taking a few seconds to start and its not just in the morning. Could it be the injectors. I have about 120,000 miles on her
If you haven't done it, change the fuel filter first. Then I'd look at the lift pump (should be behind the fuel filter housing). If it's on it's way out (or cracked and letting air into the line, like mine was), it'll cause problems like that. Need to figure out what kind of pressure it's puttng out before going any further.
Find, beg, buy, or borrow a rail pressure gauge...that will tell you quite a bit. It sounds like low rail pressure which has a multitude of causes ranging from a failed pressure valve to worn injectors.
What are some good injectors? I'm not trying to make a ton of power. My truck is pretty much bone stock. I just want something that's going to last me for a long time but better then stock....any suggestions?
