Default 02 poping in the higher rpms...headgasket?

I recently bought a 2002 cummins 5 speed with injectors, fass, intake, exhaust manny etc...If you turn the poperchips up it POPS worse but it still POPS in stock setting just not as bad. Im thinking the head gasket is smoked? will a head gasket give you similar symptoms? I think The injectors are pretty big but i am not sure what size they are.In stock form the truck is still really smoky If that helps any?

Sorry if i sound like a idiot im new to the Cummins!

OK slow down...First welcome to DB.. What is to fuel pressure at idle and at WOT.I see you have a fass pump is it a DDRP? Have you scanned the truck for any codes? Fill out your sig and will let us know what u have. Headgasket dont think so. Is there antifreeze in the oil?

Im Not sure what fass it is but i will find out. There is no fuel pressure gauge but i can test it and get back to ya on that. The truck smokes like a train and seems to run really good out on the highway but if you stand on in second, third, etc it will pull hard then start poping almost sounds like a rev limiter(obviously not) but in OD its not as noticeable if that makes sense.

The fuel pressure is tested best at the VP ( the injection pump heart of the truck).
Superchip is not a good chip for these trucks also, not sure why.

Maybe,so are you talking about the filters by the fuel tank or under the hood? Edge is a good choice with gauges,if you dont have them all ready. A EJWA would work well.Diesel Dawgs Performance

Diesel Dawgs is one of the sponsors here and always have exceeded customer service.

You need to tested it at the vp right before it goes into the pump.

The filters on the Fass there is two similar to a AD II and they look real old,I drained a bunch of water out of the one.I already have gauges in the truck. So is there a test spot on the injection pump?

Thanks for all the help guys

One of them is the fuel filter and one is the water seperator.

My 01 5spd did something similar, it ended up being a fried injection pump and a worn out lift pump.
