Ford 6.0 injector will not come out of cyl. head
I'm working on a 2004 late build 6.0. I have one injector that refuses to come out, the other seven injectors came out with the hold downs without a problem. At this point, it looks like I'm gonna have to remove the head just to get it out. The engine also seems to be burning a little coolant, once in a while I'm getting a sweet/coolant smell from the exhaust. The coolant looks good and there isn't any coolant in the oil. I pulled the Egr and found no signs of the cooler leaking. Any help for both of my concerns would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you need to pull the head to do headgaskets anyways to me. They usually don't mix oil/coolant. It can happen, but not all that common with these. Usually they just leak into the water jackets and push coolant out the overflow. Is your overflow bottle covered with a white residue?
ok, here is an update, i found the cause of the coolant consumption. the egr cooler was leaking even though there wasn't any signs of it when i removed the egr valve. when i pulled the intake, i found coolant coming out of the cooler and when i removed the turbo cross over tube, i found coolant sitting in there. i pulled the head and found that the injector was just all carboned up. if i run into this problem again, i'll probably try to make a slide hammer with a small two jaw puller
