Default difference between 97 and 94 motors

im putting together a fummins and i have the motor from a 94 cummins but i also have access to a 97 motor that is blown up that still has everything on it. im wondering what i should swap off that motor to mine. ive already grabbed the pump and injectors is anything else bigger/better

the manual tranny would have a bigger IP than that of the one with auto tranny

Only 1994-1998 trucks have the P7100 Pump
The Control Parts List number or CPL number is located on the engine data plate, which can be found on the drivers side of the timing gear cover. The engine data plate includes such information as the CPL number, engine serial number, and pump timing information.

Difference should be the injector pump, injectors, and turbo.

The 94 will have an H1C while the 97 has an HX35.

Depending on tranny, IP will have different ratings, Whit has already listed some info on that. Difference in the pumps is cam, DV's, and a retarding notch in the plungers of the 215 pump.

Also as mentioned earlier, injectors are different.
94-95 auto (160hp) 5x9 injectors
94-95 stnd (175hp) 5x9 injectors
96-98 auto (180hp) 5x9.5 injectors
96-98 stnd (215hp) 5x10.25 injectors

Hey Easternaggie, I have a question for you.. You seem to know alot in the differences in the p pumps. I'm planning a swap on my 91.5 engine and am looking for the best pump. I'm planning on looking for a 215 pump. what is differnent about the cams??? is it just the lobe on the lift pump? your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Im not sure what the exact difference is, but I just know the 180/215 pumps have a more agressive cam than the 160/175 pumps. Im referring to a cam inside the injection pump itself btw, and from what I have read, the 180/215 cam has more lift. Even if you did get a 160 or 175 pump, you could always swap in a cam from a 180 or 215 pump.

What hp are you shooting for? Really any p-pump should get you where you want to go.

Hey easternaggie, I was thinking engine cam ha ha thanks for clearing that up, I was a little confused. I did a little reading myself, and you seem to be right- all the pumps are basically the same, just the cams and dv's. as far as hp goes i'm trying to keep it under 450hp. I want some power but I can't afford to kill my fuel milage right now. maybe if fuel prices drop i'll go a little more. thanks for your help

The only disadvantage to the 215 pump is the notch in the plungers that retards timing at high rpms.

And not a problem

There really isnt enough advantage to ever think about swapping cams in pumps if you ask me, especially if you are only looking for 450hp. You could take a 160 pump and put delivery valves and injectors and the other simple things and you will have PLENTY of fuel.
