Default Strange noise

So I am not sure if this noise has always been there and haven't noticed it our if it is new but around 2100 to 2300 RPMs on my 06 CTD there is a metalic knock/tap. Its not real loud and it only seems to do it when it is not under a load, like driving down the highway or when you are ready to shift gears. Truck has 96,000 on it, smarty intake and exhaust. Just me being crazy or something to worry about. thanks for any help.

really no one with any suggestions, it sounds like it is coming from the right side. I have to take a 4000 mile trip soon and would really like to know if it is something to be concerned about

Sounds like injector rattle to me...or CP3 timing gear slap.

still stock clutch. Joints and barings are good. Seems to go with the RPM's it is not loud, but I started hearing it and can't get it out of my head. A friend of mine told me it was cummins clatter. I don't know so I am asking.

Well there could be a possabilty of the flywheel going bad its a dual mass and when they go bad they make noise and vibrate. I upgrade to a south bend dual disk so i can do other mods.
i still have my stocker in a box and its still good it doesnt have that many miles on it so if you find its your issue and dont wana shell out the cash for a new one pm me

Injector rattle typically happens as the injector wears, or if timing and pressure are added. Mine rattled for 40k before finally dying...I got a bad batch of water. Cruising down the road, it will sound like pinging in a gasser...not real loud, but definitely there.

THATS IT not loud, just kinda there but not there under load or a pull. as for the clutch, it is in the process of taking a poop. Gonna order a S.B. or a Volaro "SP?" it almost sounds like a valve rattle but between 2100 2300rpms. Can I check injectors or see which one is rattling any way? truck has 96000 on it gonna adjust the valves when I do the clutch. Thanks for all the help. I am not up on the common rail truck, I have spent most my time with farm tractors and construction equipment. I am very thankful for all the insight, please keep it coming, I wanna learn.
