Ok well I have a 2004 ford f150 and I want to put a diesel motor in it. Is this possible? If so any suggestions for a motor? How difficult would this be? And just ballparking it how much would this cost?

All depends what you want to do with it and what your budget is. A 12V cummins would be easiest probably. You can also check out 4btswaps.com they're all about 4bt 4 cylinder cummins over there, though that may not be enough grunt for the F150 chassis, but I bet it would do OK.

 

i have been looking into this for my 78' ford and from my research it can cost you anywhere from about 5k-25k just depending on what you want and how much of it you do yourself. Fordcummins has a really bad reputation on the boards. destroked.com seems to be the place to go.

You can also call Beans Diesel up, they do a TON of swaps and do some quality work!

 

If your looking to make your F150 a mileage getter get a 4bt. There have been a few swaps I have talked to people about getting around 40 or so mpg and still have plenty of grunt.

 

The only thing that I'm wondering (may or may not even be an issue) is if the 4BT will move that truck around. Most guys are putting them in Rangers and similar smaller SUV's, not full size 1/2 tons. I'd think it'd be ok, but the guys on 4btswap would be the ones to ask.

 

4bts can be modified to much higher power outputs and can make a monster mileage getter and power house. I have read a few articles and talked to a few folks that get up to like 30-50mpg or so. Theres an article in diesel power magazine about a guy with a 400hp 4bt that gets 40mpg in an early style bronco. I dont know about you guys but I wish I had a rig like that. He was running 35s I think.

 

I am a member of 4btswaps also, put a 6bt in a 92 chevy crewcab dually, one thing to remember about the 4bt is that most of them are coming from bread trucks, if they can haul one of those around it will definatly be able to haul the f150 around, look for one of the P pumped models, more cost up front but you can get alot more HP out of it with little money, and 30mpg is reality but 50mpg is keepin it a 55mph,drafting,mexican overdrive down hills, turning off at long red lights, etc etc. Bob
