Default Alternator issues

Anyone else have problems with sporadic alternator performance? As in not always charging? Seems like about 75percent of the time when I first start my truck I'm not putting out any voltage. If I drive for about a min or so it usually fixes itself an works fine, or sometimes tapping it fixes it too. It's the second alternator thats been on the truck and it has maybe lasted 30000 miles? About a year, maybe a little more. It is a rebuilt one because that's all the dealer had. Any suggestions on a better one, or can I put new brushes in this one?

I'd take it back to the dealer and tell them it was bad out of the box. They should give you another one....

30,000 miles, but how long did that take you? Some people do that in a few months, others in a few years. I doubt a dealer is going to take it back no matter what, but it depends I guess.

You can always find a local alternator/starter shop rebuild it and boost it up too...

Yeah, its been on there about a year, maybe a year and a half. Do about 30,000 miles a year so that was a guess. I can't find the receipt from when it was purchased..... No one would take it back after that long. I just thought someone on here might have rebuilt one before. I have really bad luck with rebuilt ones going **** up in a short amount of time. I can't really have the truck down long enough to have it rebuilt, so either I do it myself over a weekend or I just get a "new" rebuilt one...... Hmmm.

Ahhh. This is good to know. That explains some things. Guess I just need new batteries. Thanks!
