Default 0216 Fuel Injection pump Timing Malfunction

I replaced the head gasket on my buddy's truck. Got it all back together and ran fine while cold. Once it finally warms up he said it's running rough, smoking, and can smell fuel. Sounds to me like it's not burning it all. It also threw 0234-Turbocharger Overboost Condition.
Is there something that could've happened putting everything back together?

Clear the codes and see if they come back.

How long has he been running it since the head gasket? Stock gasket? I have similar problem but no code. The overboost code may be from a crapped out MAP sensor. Did you have the head surfaced at a shop??? If so did you send it with the sensors still in it?? I DID! The shop then WASHED my head after machining with the MAP sensor IN THE HEAD! This destroyed it!! Would have cost me 88$ but found a 35$ coupon for Advance Auto Parts online!!
The overboost code is fed by the MAP sensor. Thats why i asked!

isn't 216 the notorious vp death code?? Did you remove the pump when you swapped gaskets?? Did you remember to put the keyway back in the pump shaft?? Idk.. just spitballin
