1st gen 2wd to 4wd
Ok so im looking at buying an 89 12v 2wd dually truck...I really want a 4wd but cant pass up the deal on this truck(2500$ with 60,000 orig miles, immaculate cond), but anyways, how difficult would it be to convert it to 4wd and what exactly would i need?
I'm sure the frames are the same so, axle, drive shafts, floor shifter, transfer case, I think coils up front, basically everything from a 4wd truck. I have a 4wd 92 parts truck, has everything but engine, trans-tcase and box.
The diesel 1st gens have a dana 60 up front. The gassers of the same vintage have a dana 44 up front. If the gear ratio in the 44 is the same as in your diesels dana 70 out back then it will work but dont expect it to last long. Also, the weight of the diesel motor is gonna make it eat front end parts for breakfast.
i have a coil spring front dana 60 out of a dodge but i cant use it because the stump is on the wrong side do you know were i can trade it for a leaf spring dana 60 or should i just sell it and try to buy a new one
