Shut off solenoid
when i did mine i just unhooked the throttle brackets and dropped them out of the way. Probably would have been easier to cut off some of the bracket. Some people use a chisel and hammer to get it out too but ive never had much luck doing that stuff.
I take off the bolts that hold the bracket to the head and swing the bracket out of the way to get a clean shot to the solenoid.
I don't know if that's the best thing to do since it leaves the head hanging by the rotor, but it works.
Instead of replacing it with another solenoid, replace it with a threaded adapter to monitor case pressure and turn the engine off with a pull cable. It's what all the cool kids are doing.

I just unbolted the throttle cable bracket and put a wrench on the solenoid. Piece of cake really. sure you can only go 1 or 2 flats at a time but it will come. I got my solenoid from Oregon diesel for like $50.
I shortened and ground up a 7/8" wrench to make it fit in behind the bracket, onto the solenoid, then I used a large screwdriver to pry it counterclockise to pop it loose.
It was still a real PITA to get out.
Mark.
