Default smoke from tube under cummins

My truck is a 1998 dodge 12 valve dually It sat for 5 years cause it was beat badly. It has 123000 miles i have done everything i could afford to do to it so far. kdp, interior, bed, fenders, doors, matching rims, new brakes all around, everything new up front except steering box, alignment, registration. but now im driving it and after awhile smoke comes out from the vent tube under the engine doesnt really drop oil but is this normal. i really dont think about blow by cause of 123000 miles. oh and when i got the truck it had oil all under it i just thought it was caused by the air brake hook up that was on it so i removed it. and it never had a oil cap on it till i got it.

How much smoke are you talkin?

It's normal for some to come out, but once a lot starts coming out then you have issues.

Thats not good it didn't have an oil cap on it

What was this air brake hook up on it for?

i just got done driving it again it barely feels like air/smoke is coming out of it at idle dont have anyone around to goose it a lil. Its like if u pull up to a buddie to talk to and the wind is blowing right there like dang burning oil or what? I have only drove the truck for 3 days now and i changed the oil when i first got it. had same oil for over 5 years. oh and the air brake thing was used to pull trailers with vacuum brakes

Its blowby. My old 12v did it BAD. If I was at an intersection I could haze it out prettttty good just idling. My truck, like yours, was beat pretty bad before I bought it.

But mine had 260k on it.

Not much you can do. It really depends on what you mean by bad; but if its dusting intersections like mine did there isn't a whole lot you can do. Rebuild the motor is about it.

If its barely coming out at idle after you drive it around then I wouldn't worry about it.

The burning oil thing could just be leaking seals and gaskets. The thing did sit for 5 years and was beat on. Either that or just left over residue from that air brake system
