Default engine

i've been looking for a new truck. i found a 97 ford one ton crew cab. truck has 200,xxx miles. it has a 96 cummins engine in it. the add says the engine is a "6BTA". it's mated to a ZF5 trans with a stock dodge clutch. it has 120,xxx miles. Is there any thing i should be aware of engine wise?

if the change was done right that should make a good rig.

sounds a little steep in price

ok so i looked at the truck today. the switch seems almost hoaky with all the wires just runnin everywhere. i don't know a whole lot about cummins so correct me if i'm wrong. but if the engine is a 96. shouldn't there be a computer? it looks like the identical engine my buddy has in his 1st gen.

ok good to know. it seemed to run pretty good. started good. it just seemed like the converson was done in the least amount of time possible. the throttle cable was jerry rigged. it was very sensitive and about half pedal, it just deadend out. but he did say he was getting around 20 mpg with it. he said the timing was advanced to 18... and the lowest he's going with the price is $13,800 i think it's still to high...
thanks, Geoff

that's what i thought. i blue booked the truck as it would be with the stroker.it came out to 8k. a 96 dodge came out to about 5k. but that was just the lowest model. and that was the price for the whole truck. if i get the truck. how hard would it be to convert it to a 24 valve engine?

i dont know why youd wanna swap to a 24 valve... 12 valves are awesome and are capable of huge power numbers, just takes a little wrenchin.
