whats your timing at? if its really cold you will have to keep on the throttle for a few seconds. if your idles to low and its cold they will die.

mine smokes pretty good at an idle in the winter. but idk why it would be if you plugged it in and such. timing could have slipped tho

First off Cummins does not use glow plugs, they use an intake heater or grid heater. It heats the air as it enters the head.

Sounds to me like your timing has slipped. Its a know problem if the pump shaft is not squeeky clean when you turque the gear down. Did your wait to start light stay on longer that the rest of the lights? If so then your block heater might have gone belly up or it tripped the breaker for your power cord.

What did you have the timing set to? How does it run when it's warm? If you had it plugged in and it still smoked a lot, you're timing has probably slipped. When it was timed they likely didn't get the shaft clean enough before tightening the nut.
